WordPress backup: the free AIFORYA plugin
Back up your WordPress site database in one click or automatically. Free plugin: chunked SQL export, GZIP, retention and download.

Back up your WordPress site before an incident forces you to.
AIFORYA Backup protects your site by saving its entire database, on demand or automatically. Chunked SQL export, GZIP compression, configurable retention and secure download: all free and with no time limit. The core of the plugin works locally, with no API key and no network call: your data never leaves your server.
- Free and complete: published on WordPress.org, backup and scheduling included.
- Robust: row-batch reading so it never saturates memory, even on large sites.
- Self-contained: no API key, no account required to back up.
Why a dedicated backup plugin?
An update gone wrong, a conflicting plugin, an intrusion, a wrong move in the database: the reasons for losing a site's content are many, and they always happen at the wrong time. Without a recent, easily restorable backup, getting back online can take days, when it is still possible at all.
Many site owners know this, but balk at two obstacles: backup plugins are either crippled (scheduling and retention are reserved for the paid version), or heavy and intrusive (they push their own cloud storage and transmit data to third-party servers). AIFORYA Backup takes the opposite approach: a reliable, scheduled and fully local database backup, with no strings attached.
What the plugin does
- One-click backup — exports all your database tables (structure and data) into a standard SQL file, ready to restore or migrate.
- Chunked export — large tables are read in row batches to bound the memory used: the export stays reliable even on big databases.
- Scheduled backups — set up a daily or weekly backup via WP-Cron, with configurable retention: the oldest ones are deleted automatically.
- GZIP compression — sharply reduces the size of the backup files.
- Secure download — retrieve each backup from the admin to keep it off the server. The backup folder is protected against direct web access.
- Controlled restoration — restoration stays manual (import the SQL file via phpMyAdmin, Adminer or the command line), a deliberate choice to avoid any accidental overwrite.
How it does better than competing free plugins
| AIFORYA Backup | Common free plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled backups | Included (daily / weekly) | Often reserved for the paid version |
| Automatic retention | Included and configurable | Frequently paid |
| Large-site reliability | Chunked export, bounded memory | Frequent failures on big databases |
| Privacy | Local storage, protected folder | Pushed to a third-party cloud |
| API key / account | None to back up | Sometimes required |
Installation in 2 minutes
- Download the plugin here (or install it from WordPress.org).
- Activate it from the Plugins menu.
- Open the AIFORYA Backup menu, then click Create a backup in the Backups tab.
- Set up your automatic backups and retention in the Settings tab, then download your copies regularly to keep them off the server.
That's it: your database is backed up, and will be automatically, at the frequency you chose.
