WordPress breadcrumbs: the free AIFORYA Breadcrumbs plugin

Help your visitors find their way, and Google understand your site.

AIFORYA Breadcrumbs adds a consistent breadcrumb trail to your site (for example "Home › Category › Article") and automatically outputs the Schema.org structured data (BreadcrumbList) expected by search engines. Your visitors always know where they are, and your pages gain readability in search results. All of it runs locally, with no API key, and for free with no time limit.

  • Free and complete: published on WordPress.org, breadcrumbs and structured data included.
  • Double benefit: better navigation for your visitors, better markup for SEO.
  • Lightweight: computed from data already present in WordPress, with no external calls.

Why add breadcrumbs?

Breadcrumbs answer a simple question that every visitor asks: "where am I, and how do I go back?". By displaying the navigation path, you reduce the feeling of being lost, you make the site easier to explore and you encourage the discovery of related content. It is a small interface element with a concrete benefit for engagement.

On the SEO side, breadcrumbs play an equally important role: properly marked up with Schema.org structured data, they let Google display the navigation path in its results, in place of the raw URL. The difficulty is that many plugins reserve this markup for a full and heavy SEO suite, or for a paid version. AIFORYA Breadcrumbs offers the essentials — smart breadcrumbs and their BreadcrumbList markup — in a dedicated, lightweight plugin.

What the plugin does

  • Smart breadcrumbs — a navigation path tailored to each context: posts (main category and its parents), pages (hierarchy of parent pages), category or tag archives, author, search, date archives and 404 page.
  • SEO structured data — Schema.org BreadcrumbList markup (JSON-LD) generated from the same breadcrumb trail, for a possible rich display in search results.
  • Automatic insertion — the breadcrumbs appear before the content of your posts and pages, with no intervention.
  • Shortcode and PHP function — place the breadcrumbs wherever you want with [aiforya_breadcrumbs] or aiforya_breadcrumbs() in your theme.
  • Customization — choose the separator, the home label, the contexts concerned and whether or not to display the current page.
