WordPress Image SEO: the free AIFORYA plugin (WebP/AVIF)
Compress images to WebP/AVIF, add watermark, social cropping and schema.org. Free WordPress plugin, no API key, your originals untouched.

Optimize your images for speed and search ranking, without touching the originals.
AIFORYA Image SEO automatically converts your images to next-generation formats (WebP, AVIF), makes them lighter, adds a watermark, generates the variants in social formats and enriches your pages with schema.org structured data. All of it locally, without an API key, without any external service - and for free, with no time limit.
- Your originals are preserved: the plugin creates optimized copies in
uploads, never a destructive change. - 100% local core: compression, watermark, cropping, schema and audit work with no network call whatsoever.
- Lightweight and reversible: deactivate the plugin and WordPress serves your original images again.
Why optimize your images?
Images often make up most of a page's weight. Files that are too heavy slow down rendering, hurt your Core Web Vitals score and penalize your search ranking. Converting them to WebP or AVIF cuts their size by half or more, at equivalent visual quality.
But most optimization plugins have three problems: either they're paid as soon as you want AVIF or batch processing, or they send your images to a third-party server to compress them (dependency, quotas, privacy), or they modify your original files with no way back. AIFORYA Image SEO removes all three obstacles: local processing, untouched originals, modern formats included.
What the plugin does
- Next-generation compression - automatic conversion to WebP and AVIF with a
<picture>tag and JPEG/PNG fallback. Adjustable quality. - Lazy loading - with first-image (LCP) exclusion to preserve rendering speed.
- Watermark - applies the text of your choice at the position you want (corner or center), on a copy of the image (requires the PHP Imagick extension).
- Cropping to social formats - generates 4 variants per image: 1:1 (Instagram), 1.91:1 (X / Open Graph), 9:16 (Story), 16:9 (YouTube) (requires Imagick).
- Structured data - schema.org
ImageObjectmarkup for your images. - Media library audit - spots heavy files, images without WebP and missing alt text.
- Asynchronous processing queue - a WP-Cron worker processes images in the background, without slowing down the admin.
- Multilingual interface - French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch.
How it does better than competing free plugins
| AIFORYA Image SEO | Common free plugins | |
|---|---|---|
| AVIF format | Included (on top of WebP) | Often paid-version only |
| Processing | 100% local on your server | Often sent to a third-party server |
| Original files | Always preserved | Sometimes overwritten with no way back |
| Social cropping + watermark | Included (with Imagick) | Rarely free |
| API key / account / quota | None | Monthly quota common |
Privacy and dependencies
The plugin's core - compression, watermark, cropping, schema.org, audit - works entirely without a network call. A support and reviews channel built into the admin can, only if you trigger it yourself (sending a message or posting a review), communicate with the AIFORYA service. Each send asks for your explicit consent. No data is transmitted without action on your part.
Install in 2 minutes
- Download the plugin here (or install it from WordPress.org).
- Activate it from the Plugins menu.
- Go to AIFORYA Image SEO to set the compression quality, then start optimization from the Library tab.
For the watermark and social cropping, the PHP Imagick extension must be active on your hosting (WebP/AVIF compression works with GD, which is available everywhere).
